Then it comes to making the bags and I procrastinate a little. The little drawstring bags are very simple and easy but not nearly as fun to make as the fiddly fish.
I always leave the fishing rods to the very last to make. I don't enjoy making them. They are more time consuming and because the magnets need to be very firmly attached I use a very strong glue. It is messy and I always get glue on other places where the glue shouldn't go. Firstly the sting is glued to the rod and then the magnet to the end of the string. Once this is dried I glue a ribbon wrap around both ends to hide the ugly parts and make the whole fishing rod stronger.
Finally they are finished! Definately more work involved than it looks but they are gorgeous and lots of fun for kids to play.
It is really interesting to see how much time and effort goes into making craft. During the week I read this blog post by Amarias Paper Work. It really opened my eyes to how much work some crafts are taking into account the hours spent just how hard it is to price items for sale.

ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about leaving the less enjoyable parts until last, it's a bad habit of mine! I tend to procrastinate and keep putting it off, until I have a big pile of things to finish. I also enjoyed the post by Amarias Paperworks and was thinking of doing something similar too, just to show how much work actually goes into my things.. like yours, a lot more than people think!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous idea! I clicked on your thumbnail thinking the little felt octopus was a little girl's felt hair clippie, but I love your idea much more!
